Large Swedish Grace Vase by GAB ORI, 1930s

A large Swedish Grace or Art Deco vase by GAB Ori, Sweden, 1930s. The vase has a different design of a female figure, surrounded by birds, on either side, in silver metal and silver edging and banding details. The renowned Swedish designer Jacob Ängman was artistic director at GAB (Guldsmedsaktiebolaget or Goldsmiths Company) where in the 1920s he developed and patented a technique for producing bronzed 'babbitt' metal, most likely a pewter base, which he called Ori. This enabled a bronze like surface to form a background and feature silver designs in stark and dramatic contrast. Height 23 cm x Diameter 14.5 cm
