Andersen was born in Greenland and named an alloy he originated Disko metal after Disko Bay in his homeland. Similar but not identical to bronze, he did not share the recipe and so his productions are the only ones made from this metal. This casket was cast in the 1920s or 1930s after he had established his own firm from 1918. In his early career he designed for Georg Jensen and later also contributed many designs to the Swedish firm GAB. The name stamp is worn but just visible, with the model number D30 and Disko below.
