Two Pewter Boxes by Sylvia Stave for CG Hallberg, Sweden, 1931 and 1933

A very rare pair of pewter cylindrical boxes by the renowned designer Sylvia Stave (1908-1994). They were produced by the leading Swedish silversmith and metalwork firm CG Hallberg where Stave was chief designer from 1929, at a remarkably young age, for approximately a decade. In the late 1930s, she retired from design work, married and moved to Paris. In recent years her work has become the focus of renewed attention, for its combination of Art Deco and Bauhaus Functionalism with decorative flourishes related to Swedish Grace. Hallmarked E8 and G8 for 1931 and 1933 respectively. These boxes bear some signs of wear and tear but are in general are in remarkably good condition. They are sold as a pair.
