Pair of vases by Sylvia Stave, for CG Hallberg, 1933 and 1934

A pair of large sleek and elegant vases designed by Sylvia Stave (1908-1994), hallmarked G8 for 1933 and H8 for 1934. These vases exhibit Stave's combination of a daring economy of form, completely void of decoration, blending Art Deco with Bauhaus Functionalism. Such design characteristics lead to some of her work being misattributed to the famed Bauhaus designer Marianne Brandt. Stave worked at CG Hallberg as Chief Designer from a remarkably young age for about a decade, beginning in 1929, after her early award-winning designs had brought her to attention. At the end of the 1930s, she married and moved to Paris giving up designing for good. The vase openings have slight differences. As vintage pieces, these vases have signs of age, and some small dents, but this does not impact their overall effect. They are sold as a pair.
